DIAMONDBACKS EXPLODE FOR 18 HITS, HAND YANKEES 10–3 LOSS IN BRONX

NEW YORK — One night after finally getting into the win column, the New York Yankees couldn’t keep the momentum going.

The Arizona Diamondbacks pounded out 18 hits and pulled away with a 10–3 victory Friday night at Yankee Stadium, overpowering New York’s pitching staff in Game 5 of the season.

Behind a huge night from Ketel Marte and steady pitching from Corbin Burnes, Arizona’s offense kept the pressure on all night.

Marte Leads Arizona’s Offensive Outburst

The Diamondbacks lineup was relentless, and Marte was right at the center of it.

The Arizona second baseman earned Player of the Game honors after going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored, setting the tone for a lineup that produced runs in five different innings.

He wasn’t alone.

Josh Naylor had a big night as well, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Geraldo Perdomo went 3-for-6 with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

Corbin Carroll added a double and an RBI in a 1-for-5 performance, helping Arizona pile up 10 runs on 18 hits.

Arizona built early momentum with three runs in the first inning, then steadily added insurance runs through the middle innings to pull away.

Burnes Provides Stability

With plenty of run support behind him, Burnes delivered a solid outing on the mound.

The right-hander worked five innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking four. It wasn’t his sharpest start, but it was more than enough on a night when Arizona’s offense never slowed down.

Yankees Flash Power but Little Else

New York had a few bright moments offensively but struggled to keep pace with Arizona’s relentless attack.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. provided the biggest highlight for the Yankees, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, accounting for all three of New York’s runs.

Cody Bellinger added a double in a 1-for-3 night, while Anthony Volpe chipped in a hit in four at-bats.

Jasson Domínguez reached base but finished 0-for-2 with a run scored.

Despite jumping out to a 3–0 lead in the first inning, the Yankees’ bats went quiet afterward, managing just six hits the rest of the way.

Late-Inning Trouble

Things unraveled further for New York in the later innings as Arizona continued to pile on runs.

Reliever Fernando Cruz was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in one inning, part of a tough night for the Yankees bullpen as Arizona stretched the lead out of reach.

By the Numbers

Diamondbacks: 10 runs, 18 hits, 0 errors
Yankees: 3 runs, 6 hits, 2 errors

Marte: 4-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R
Naylor: 3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI
Perdomo: 3-for-6, 2B, 2 RBI
Chisholm Jr.: 2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI

The Takeaway

For Arizona, it was a complete offensive performance — constant pressure, timely extra-base hits, and strong production throughout the lineup.

For the Yankees, the loss was a frustrating step back after finally snapping their early losing streak the night before.

A strong first inning wasn’t enough this time, and with the season still young, New York will be searching for consistency as the series continues in the Bronx. ⚾
