BRONX, N.Y. — Christian Yelich continued his scorching start to the season Saturday night, blasting two more home runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-2 win over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the series at Yankee Stadium.
Yelich finished 3-for-5 with two homers, a double, three RBIs, and three runs scored, giving him three home runs through the first two games of the season. Rhys Hoskins added a homer of his own and drove in four runs as Milwaukee’s lineup overwhelmed Yankees pitching with 11 hits.
The Brewers broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the third inning before adding three more in the fifth against Yankees starter Carlos Rodón. Milwaukee continued to pile on late with two runs in both the seventh and ninth innings.
Brandon Woodruff earned the victory after delivering 6 2/3 solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five. Rodón took the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits across five innings.
Jasson Domínguez provided the lone bright spot offensively for New York, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. The Yankees managed just five hits overall and committed two errors in the defeat.
Milwaukee improved to 2-0 on the young season, while the Yankees will look to avoid falling deeper behind as the series continues in the Bronx.
